Interfacing with the Architectural System

The existing packs are patched to specifically belong in specific groups. The outlets in the green room, lobby, dressing rooms, stage, and so forth need to remain in those rooms. They should not be moved from one location to another.

If you are in need of additional outlets for stage auxiliary power, there are two additional outlets located in the booth which can be used to power additional accessories.

Patching an architectural outlet

All outlets and architectural devices are patched on universe 5 to not conflict with any existing universes or any outputs from the Element 2. (Note the Element 2 only supports 1024 discrete address outputs).

Use fixture type zigbee outlet when patching an outlet to the lighting system.

The channel should be patched to the address labeled on the outlet on universe 5. For example, if the label on an outlet says 24, patch the channel to address 5/24.

TIP

Use the custom fixture patch when patching a zigbee outlet. Using a standard non-dim fixture patchewill not work with these outlets, and will fail to turn on or off any zigbee outlet.

Using the zigbee outlet fixture type

There is a custom patch in the Element's template show file which adds a new fixture type: Zigbee Outlet. This profile is unique, as it has three states rather than the typical two that a non-dim circuit has.

The middle state when the intensity is at exactly 50%, does abosolutely nothing. At this level, the configured outlet will be controllable by the web dashboard and any other permitted sources. Below or above 50%, this channel will behave like a normal non-dim circuit.

This allows the console to return control of these outlets to manual control or button stations around the house, while still continuing to reassert the state of stage power, or any other circuit that's fully on.

Controlling the outlet

Stage power

Stage power outlets should be predominantly controlled by the lighting console, and not managed by the dashboard or button stations.

If the fixtures powered via an outlet are used throughout the show, the power circuit should be set to max intensity in every cues within the show. If the fixtures are not in use during this show, such as the center movers, those outlets should be set to Out in every cue within the show. This will ensure those outlets are out, and stay out.

If the outlet is a run light or any other light in the theatre, discuss with the stage manager and other relevant parties of the show personnel to determine which architectural lights need to be programmed into the cue list. For example, the first show this was implemented, they were turned on in a Power Cue (Q0.5), and subsequently left at 50% for the rest of the cues. This powered on every run light at the beginning of the cue list, but allowed for complete local control of every light, despite the state of the lighting console.

IMPORTANT

Do not use park any power circuit. The Element 2 is used weekly for rentals and parking any circuit will cause problems with their lighting usage. Do not repatch any of the first 12 power circuits.
