Architectural System Operation

The Theatre NOVA architectural system has several different methods of control, in order to ensure that the system is flexible and able to adapt to the many different types of shows that are performed by Theatre NOVA.

Button Stations

Around the space, there are button stations affixed to walls. These are white, with labeled buttons indicating which rooms or lights they control.

There is one located in each room with a running light:

  • One by the stage door in the lobby, which controls the lobby run lights
  • One by the green room door to the House, which controls the green room lights and dressing rooms
  • One in the shop adjacent to the shop works light switch, which controls the shop run lights

TIP

These button stations can be disabled or enabled with Show Mode.

Dashboard

From the lighting network

Navigate to http://10.101.50.41:8123 to reach the dashboard from a device on the lighting network. From there, use kiosk as the username and password.

From the staff network

Navigate to http://homeassistant:8123 to reach the dashboard from a device on the staff network. The Box Office computer can always reach this URL, regardless of an internet connection or not.

Use kiosk as the username and password.

From online

The dashboard is publicly exposed to the internet and is available at https://nova-dash.mapletwine.dev. This dashboard allows for full control of the theatre lighting system at any point in time. The above login is disabled when using the public URL and you MUST log in with your personal account.

If you do not yet have a personal account, please email Jade and cc Theatre NOVA to have one set up. Note that this login is different from the internal services.

Manual Override

TIP

There are a few exceptions to when Manual control is possible. See Exceptions below.

By default, each outlet can be manually controlled using the buttons on the left facing side. Quickly press the momentary button once to toggle the state of the relay.

This manual override will persist until another command is sent from another part of the network, such as a button station or the lighting console.

If this is an emergency, please check Emergency Override of Relayed Outlets

WARNING

Do not depress the momentary button for an extended period of time. Holding the button for more than five seconds will unpair the devices from the network, removing all external control of the device, and requiring manual intervention to re-add the device to the arch network.

Exceptions

Not all outlets can all be manually overridden, and there are some exceptions to what can be controlled manually.

Local button control can be disabled by the lighting console or the rest of the network. If the lighting console is in this state, this will entirely block local control from working. At the moment, there is NO local override for this, and the LD will need to be talked with. This is primarily enabled on switches that provide power to integral show power such as the relays that power the lights on stage.

In other cases, the switch may appear to be locally controllable, but will subsequently turn off after an indeterminate amount of time. This is due to the lighting console having control of that circuit, and the system re-asserting the states that are stored within the lighting Console. Talk to the Lighting Designer of the current show if you are experiencing issues regarding this.

TIP

Work is being done to disable local control when the console is asserting a signal, to remove this confusing behavior.
